Well-known as the city of art and lights, Aix or Aix-en-Provence is a city in southern France, situated about 30 km north to Marseille. Famous for its superb preservation of architecture, it is home to the upper-class and surrounded by magnificent monuments. It is a sub-prefecture in the Bouches-du-Rhone department of the Provence region and has a population of about 140,000 (2005).
